Work Experience
David Cosby Chartered Surveyors and Estate Agents have been delighted to accommodate two students for their work experience during the summer holidays.
No photocopying or tea making duties here!
Far from having mundane tasks such as photocopying and tea making duties, we have been able to provide them both with invaluable experience in a wide range of surveying and estate agency duties.
Correctly diagnosing roof spread.
Charles has been a great asset on Defect Diagnosis Inspections, using his flair for physics to correctly diagnose roof spread on a 1950’s mid-terrace house and accurately identifying lack of lintel support above a window opening which has resulted in dropping of the brickwork above. Charles has also accompanied our surveyors on a number of RICS HomeBuyer Reports in Kettering and Rushden. One of Charles’ favourite duties was to conduct a full 3D scan of a large period property in Bugbrooke for use in preparing detailed plans for a conversion project.
Surveying a £1m Georgian town house.
Toby has enjoyed spending some of his time accompanying one of our surveyors on a Building Survey inspection of a £1m Georgian town house in the centre of Rugby. He has also assisted in diagnosing the cause of dampness within an Edwardian terrace house in Brackley and conducted a 3D scan of a residential house for use in a Virtual Tour for marketing purposes.
A flair for design!
Back in the office, drawing work has been one of Toby’s favourite tasks and he has quickly picked up the required skills to measure and prepare accurate floor layout plans.
On the estate agency side, both Charles and Toby have been a great help. They have established chain details and updated residential sale files. They have also assisted with desk top research for residential surveys including establishing radon levels, flood risk assessments, and planning issues.
Great work both of you. We hope to have you back again soon.
