Long Buckby is a village located in Northamptonshire, England. The village dates to at least the 11th century and has a long and varied history.
The first recorded reference to Long Buckby is in a charter of 1086, when it was included in the lands of Earl Hugh of Chester. The village flourished during the Middle Ages, with a market held in the village from 1235. By the 16th century, Long Buckby had become an important trading post, with a thriving wool industry.
In the late 17th century, the village was the site of a major battle between the Royalists and Parliamentary forces during the English Civil War. The Royalists were defeated, and the village was occupied by Parliamentarian forces for several years.
During the 19th century, the village benefited from the construction of the Northampton – Market Harborough railway line, which brought increased trade and prosperity to the area. The railway also enabled the village to become a popular tourist destination, attracting visitors from across the country.
In the 20th century, Long Buckby underwent a period of modernisation and redevelopment. The village now boasts a variety of amenities, including a good range of shops and small supermarkets, a chemist, a newsagents and post office, public houses and restaurants. The village also has its own medical practice and dentist, a library, a good range of sporting clubs, and a junior school. Nearby Long Buckby Railway Station has direct links to London Euston and Birmingham New Street.
Long Buckby is surrounded by Northamptonshire countryside, offering numerous opportunities for outdoor activities like hiking, cycling, and bird-watching. The proximity to nature reserves and parks makes it an ideal location for those who appreciate outdoor pursuits and scenic beauty.
